Sad.But true. People like them do exist even out of the US. People will do anything to get themselves ahead of others by just faking. But the worst part is , here some of them even steal the real hard work that others do and put it as one of their own. But no matter whatever they do, whatever they achieve, reality always gets them some or the other way.

Nowhere is this more true than in the trucking industry. I am a profesional driver who sees this on a reguar basis and it also drives me crazy!!!! For some reason when I strike up a conversation with someone, the necessity for the other person to start off on some bullshit tangent is immediatly apparent. All I can ever do in these situations is just kind look away, but i am sure that my body language is saying "shut up!! tell your bullshit to someone who believes it!!!"

No, but I think it's true that the lessons kids are learning are showing up in schools and at universities and so forth. Narcissistic tendencies, grade inflation, and so forth. Privilege that leads to negative outcomes. Quite fascinating.

It's also a matter of recognizing that real achievement takes a lot of time and is the result of many baby steps (which always brings to mind the Bill Murray's hilarious performance in "What About Bob) and many tiny victories. True accomplishment does not provide instant gratification.

This kind of behavior all boils down to one thing, unfortunately, there are many people out there who are controlled by their ego and will resort to anything to "get ahead" or feel superior to others. You are right though, the truth will always catch up with these types and their fraud is usually revealed. They need to take a look at Eckhart Tolle's book, "A New Earth, Awakening to Your Life's Purpose" and stop operating from a state of unconsciousness and ego control.

It's amazing, the number of stories like this one hears, again and again, in many fields but music more than any other. What's sad is that it's almost becoming normal, while the exception is someone who works really, really hard and doesn't need to make stuff up. It's great that you can recognize and appreciate someone as genuine as that particular engineer who doesn't have the need to tout himself and is instead satiated by the process of simply doing what he does very well.

It's rare to find someone who has 'never faked anything.' Everyone has to do it sometimes.

The first time I did a musical theater gig, "Jekyll & Hyde In Concert," I was asked about my sight reading skills. They were ok, but not great. I answered "Good." This was ok, because I knew I could do the gig and didn't want to worry them. I did some immediate crash-coursing on my reading and worked with a pro-Broadway musician friend to make sure I was ready. I got the job, nailed the parts and was the first call guitar player for the show.

There is such a thing as 'responsible faking.'
